Haruhi Fujioka
Haruhi Fujioka is the main character of the Ouran High School Host Club series. She is a highly intelligent 1st-year student from a middle-class ("poor" in the eyes of Ouran's students) family who attends Ouran Academy on scholarship based upon an entrance exam. As she is required to remain first in her class to keep her scholarship, her studies are very important to her.

tamaki suoh
Kyoya Ootori, a 2nd-year student at Ouran Academy, is the sly and calculating Vice-President of the Host Club which he co-founded with his best friend, Tamaki Suoh. Despite Tamaki's position as the President, Kyoya is the true director, playing the role of a puppet-master behind the scenes (thus earning him the nickname of "Shadow King"). He takes care of the Host Club’s expenses and is always seeking ways to generate income, even selling items belonging to the Hosts (e.g. Haruhi’s mechanical pencil) for profit. Though he claims to be an egoist, it has been shown that merit for Kyoya can mean either tangible/monetary benefits or intangible/friendship benefits. As the third son of the wealthy and influential Ootori family, he has been brought up to believe that he must surpass his two elder brothers if he wishes to take over the family business and thus works extremely hard to meet his strict father's high expectations of him. Later on in the series, this attitude is challenged and, in the anime, altered due to the influence of Tamaki.

Umehito Nekozawa, who is commonly referred to as "Nekozawa," is depicted as a hooded figure who is never without his cat hand puppet, Beelzenef the curse doll. Despite displaying a frightening disposition and strange hobbies, Nekozawa is actually a very nice and considerate person. He suffers from Photophobia (sensitivity to light), which causes him to collapse in direct sunlight and as a result, whenever he is dragged towards any light source, he will refer to the people who do so as "murderers."
As the President of the Black Magic Club , Nekozawa attempts to get people to join by offering a free "Beelzenef" hand puppet upon admission, but he ultimately fails in this endeavor. Apart from the hand puppet, he also has cursed voodoo doll versions of Beelzenef available for sale; these voodoo dolls are claimed to bring a shower of misfortune to the person whose name is written on its back. Tamaki Suoh is shown to be especially superstitious and nervous around Nekozawa as he has allegedly experienced them first-hand. |

Takashi "Mori" Morinozuka is a 3rd-year student at Ouran Academy and the second-oldest member of the Ouran Host Club. As a Host, he is considered the "Wild" type in the manga and the "Strong-Silent" type in the anime. He is rarely seen without his cousin and best friend, Mitsukuni "Honey" Haninozuka, who is often found riding on his shoulders. Historically, the Morinozuka family had served the Haninozuka family for many generations before marriage joined the families, thus breaking the master-servant tradition; despite this, Takashi still faithfully looks out for Mitsukuni and attends to his wishes. He is a national champion in kendo and a skilled karate practitioner. His stoic and sometimes scary demeanor hides the fact that he has a peculiar connection with animals as seen in the manga when he adopts a stray tanuki and cares for a baby chick, and wherein it is also said that he has a "fetish for small things" (Mitsukuni, Haruhi, etc.).

Honey
Mitsukuni "Honey" Haninozuka is considered a "boy lolita" or "loli-shota"; basically, an older boy who likes cute things and, due to his diminutive size, is cute himself. Mitsukuni is a perennial optimist who loves sweets and small things. His babyish features and innocent approach to life make him appear to be more like an elementary school student instead of a 3rd year high school student, as well as the eldest of all the hosts. He is often seen riding on the shoulders of his best friend and cousin, Takashi Morinozuka, and is almost always carrying his stuffed rabbit, Usa-chan.
